TabWyrm 1.0.0
TabWyrm replaces Chrome's New Tab page with a dragon you raise. Everything runs in your browser; there is no account to sign in to.
Getting started
How do I hatch my dragon?
Open a new tab and tap the egg. After a few minutes, and another tap, it hatches. Then you can name your dragon (Rename) and pet it from the New Tab page.
How does my dragon evolve?
Your dragon earns experience when you pet it and when it eats old tabs. Petting counts once every five minutes, and both have a daily experience limit. At level 10 it becomes ready to evolve and an Evolve button appears. Its DNA decides the form: petting builds Bond, which leads to the Moon Dragon; feeding it tabs builds Order and Discipline, which lead to the Crystal Dragon. Evolution is permanent.
Chrome asked whether to keep the new New Tab page
Chrome asks this whenever an extension replaces the New Tab page. Choose to keep it to keep
TabWyrm. If you change it back, Chrome may turn TabWyrm off; you can turn it on again at
chrome://extensions.
Feed Tabs
How does Feed Tabs work?
Once your dragon has hatched, choose Feed tabs on the New Tab page. TabWyrm lists the tabs you have not used for at least 10 minutes. Tick the ones you no longer need, choose Continue, check the list, then Close & Feed. Only the tabs you confirm are closed, and your dragon gets a snack.
These tabs are always protected and never offered: the tab you are on, pinned tabs, tabs playing sound, tabs used in the last 10 minutes, and browser or extension pages. Unsaved work in a closed tab may be lost, so only feed tabs you are done with.
Why does Chrome say TabWyrm can "Read your browsing history"?
That is Chrome's wording for the "tabs" permission, which Feed Tabs needs to show the titles and addresses of your open tabs. TabWyrm reads them only while the Feed Tabs dialog is open, keeps them in memory, and never stores or sends them. See the Privacy Policy.
Roam the Web
How do I turn Roam on?
On the New Tab page, choose Let your dragon roam webpages, read the note, then Enable Roam. Chrome asks whether TabWyrm may access websites; Roam starts only if you allow it. Your dragon then appears in a corner of the pages you visit. Some pages, such as Chrome's own pages and the Chrome Web Store, never allow extensions.
How do I turn Roam off or remove site access?
On the New Tab page, choose Disable Roam to hide the dragon on websites, or
Disable & remove site access to also give the website permission back to
Chrome. You can also manage it in Chrome: open chrome://extensions, choose
Details under TabWyrm, and change Site access.
Settings and data
Can I reduce animation?
Yes. Tick Reduce motion on the New Tab page. TabWyrm also follows your system's reduced-motion setting.
How do I reset TabWyrm and start over?
Version 1.0.0 has no in-app reset. Remove TabWyrm at chrome://extensions and
add it again from the Chrome Web Store. Removing it permanently deletes your dragon and all
of its progress.
Can I move my dragon to another computer?
Not yet. The save lives in this browser's local extension storage; there is no account and nothing is synced.
Is TabWyrm free?
Yes. There is nothing to buy and no subscription.
