Privacy Policy
Effective 28 September 2026 · TabWyrm 1.0.0 and later
TabWyrm is a free Chrome extension built by Vanta Technology ("we"). It replaces Chrome's New Tab page with a dragon you raise, and can optionally show that dragon on the webpages you visit. This policy describes exactly what the extension stores, what it looks at, and when.
The short version
- TabWyrm has no account, no servers, no analytics and no ads.
- Your game is saved only in your browser. We never receive it.
- Two features look at information in your browser, on your device and only while they run: Feed Tabs reads your open tabs, and Roam the Web reads the hostname of the page it appears on. Neither keeps nor sends what it reads.
- TabWyrm makes no network requests of its own.
What TabWyrm stores on your device
TabWyrm keeps one save in Chrome's local extension storage
(chrome.storage.local) on this browser. It contains:
- Your dragon: its name, stage, evolution, level and experience, bond, hunger and mood, when it was created and when you last petted it, and its seven DNA trait scores.
- Progress: the number of tabs eaten, today's date with today's experience totals (for the daily limits), the time of the last daily reward, whether evolution is ready, and when you last played.
- Settings: whether Roam is on, where the dragon may appear, reduce motion and sound.
- A random identifier and the install time, created when TabWyrm first runs, to keep the save consistent. They are not linked to you and never leave your browser.
- A few reserved fields that hold nothing about you and stay at fixed default values in this version.
The save is not synced or uploaded. Removing TabWyrm from Chrome deletes it permanently.
Feed Tabs and the "tabs" permission
When you open Feed Tabs, TabWyrm asks Chrome for your open tabs. For each tab it receives Chrome's tab number, the title, the address (or the address it is still loading), the window, whether the tab is pinned, active, playing sound or unloaded to save memory, when it was last used, and the address of its icon (an icon is shown only when the page embeds it). TabWyrm uses this only to list the tabs you could close and to protect the ones it must not close (pinned, active, playing, recently used and browser pages). This data stays in memory while the dialog is open and is discarded when it closes. It is never stored, logged, turned into a history, or sent anywhere. TabWyrm never downloads site icons.
Only the tabs you select and confirm are closed. What remains afterwards is a count of tabs eaten and your dragon's reward. Chrome describes the "tabs" permission as "Read your browsing history"; this paragraph is the whole of TabWyrm's use of it.
Roam the Web and optional site access
Roam is off by default. If you choose Enable Roam, Chrome asks whether TabWyrm may access websites. With your permission, TabWyrm draws your dragon in its own isolated layer in a corner of the pages you visit. To pick a small reaction (for example, a prop on a video site), it reads the page's hostname in memory. It does not read page text, forms, passwords, messages, cookies or search queries, does not change the page's content, and does not store hostnames or keep any record of the sites you visit. On the page it listens only for clicks on the dragon itself and for the tab being hidden or shown, to pause its animation.
You can turn Roam off, or turn it off and remove site access, from the New Tab page at any
time ("Disable Roam" or "Disable & remove site access"). Site access can also be changed
in Chrome at chrome://extensions → TabWyrm → Details.
Dragon Card
Dragon Cards are drawn on your device from your save. A card is written to your computer only when you click Save PNG; it is never uploaded.
Network requests and third parties
TabWyrm makes no network requests of its own. Its dragon art ships inside the extension and loads from the extension itself. There is no analytics, telemetry, crash reporting, advertising or tracking code, no remote configuration, no cloud sync and no account system. Because nothing is collected, nothing is sold, shared or transferred to anyone.
Chrome Web Store User Data Policy
The use of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. TabWyrm uses the information described above only to provide its features on your device, and never sells or transfers it.
Children
TabWyrm is not directed at children under 13 and collects no personal information from anyone.
Changes to this policy
If TabWyrm's behaviour changes, this page and its effective date change before the new version is published.
